Diet Review: Detox Diets

A while back I tried the “detox” / starvation diets after I heard many famous celebrities had tried them and had success.

The Basics:

Most detox diets are the same – eat only fruits and vegetables, only consume liquids, no more than 400 calories a day from juice and broth etc. Basically, they all come down to the same thing – starvation.

For two months, I followed a “detox” plan, only consuming juice. And yes, I lost A LOT of weight. I also lost my hair – big patches of hair fell off my scalp. I also lost a lot of muscle mass, leaving me flabby and loose. I was so tired all the time, I needed a nap after watching Judge Judy. I did not feel energized and alive like the detox diets claimed I was supposed to. I just felt like crap. Worse, once I started eating solid food again, I gained all the weight back and more because my metabolism had plummeted.

The Final Report:

Don’t do it.
