I have a love/hate relationship with weigh in days. On one hand, you’re dying to know the results. On the other, you start obsessing over every last detail of the week – did I work out hard enough Tuesday? Will that extra biscotti blow it? If I shave my legs, will I be a fraction of a pound lighter? Is all this hard work ever going to pay off?
This weigh in, I tried hard not to go all obsessive-compulsive. Like I said in my “Goals” post on day 2, reasonable goals are important – it’s about PROGRESS, not PERFECTION. So before I got on the scale this morning, I made a list of my progress this week-
I worked out for an hour every day. For someone like me, who is a sporadic-at-best exerciser, this was a big step. And actually, I discovered it wasn’t that difficult to find the extra hour a day I needed to do it.
I kept a complete, detailed food journal for the entire week – no fudging even! In the past, I had kept food journals, but if I had a “binge day” or cheat, I’d just rip the page out.
I stuck to a moderate eating plan, though not a real “diet”. On average, I had about 2,000 calories per day – I had hoped for 1600, possibly lower. Unfortunately, I was too hungry (and probably emotionally eating) to cut to below 2,000. But this too was progress. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s I was probably eating around 2,500 to 3,000 calories a day (that accounts for this fall’s 15lb weight gain), so 2,000 is a start. Besides, the stomach does expand as a result of overeating, so in time my stomach will shrink and below 2,000 calories a day will get easier.
With that said, here are the results: This week I lost 2.2 lbs. 37.8 lbs. to go!
